Skate for the Troops is excited to announce its 4th annual fundraiser benefiting the Semper Fi Fund. On Sunday December 9, 2012 (11am) participants will meet at Robb Field Skate Park in Ocean Beach, CA to support a great cause, benefiting post 9/11 injured Armed Forces and their families. The Semper Fi Fund is a non-profit organization established in 2004, and since has issued more than 48,000 grants – totaling more than $67 million to over 8,300 of our heroes and their families. The Semper Fi Fund relies on private donations and events like Skate for the Troops to raise awareness for their cause.
“This project is one that is near and dear to our hearts,” said Derek Smith, Marine Corps Veteran and organizer of Skate for the Troops. “The resources available to our soldiers doesn’t always cover everything they may be faced with, we hope to fill in those gaps and help families who have sacrificed so much for you, me – our country. Last year over 50 skaters and volunteers helped to raise over $550. We are proud that to date we have been able to donate close to $2,000 – Our goal this year is to raise over $1,000.”
Anyone is welcome to come and participate by skating or to show their support. A raffle to include skateboarding equipment, apparel, and local merchant gift certificates will be held following the end of the skate, and raffle tickets can be purchased throughout the day. Additionally, each participant will be able to enjoy free food from The Inslider San Diego Food Truck.
