Thanks for visiting my fundraising page for the Semper Fi Fund!  This is my way to "Support through Sport!" our injured and critically ill service members and their families.

I plan to fundraise for the Semper Fi Fund during my training and participation in a kayak trip from the source of the Mississippi River to the Gulf of Mexico with one of my best friends/brother/Marine.  Our adventure will begin on May 31st, 2014 from Lake Itasca, MN (Source of the Mississippi River) and end approximately 2 1/2 months later at the Gulf of Mexico.  We hope to make a difference in a military member’s life and we need your help.  Your donations will go towards providing better support, helping defray the expenses incurred during hospitalization, rehabilitation and recovery; assist with the expenses associated with the purchase of specialized equipment, adaptive vehicles and home modifications.

From April to November 2010, I was on my second deployment to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Our unit was tasked with the mission to clear routes of Improvised Explosive Devices (IED’s). For the sake of that mission and defending this great nation, four of my brothers made the ultimate sacrifice during this tour. I had the privilege to serve with some of the greatest people this world has to offer which made it very difficult to see so many of my friends sustain injuries from IED’s.  Some of these experiences have had an effect on me. Three years after returning home, I still suffer from PTSD. I have received help from many organizations like the Semper Fi Fund to help cope with my struggles.  Now it’s my turn to return the favor and do my part to help raise money to support all the wounded veterans.

The Semper Fi Fund (www.semperfifund.org) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that helps America's true heroes recovering from catastrophic injury.  They have been awarded the highest ratings from Watch Dog groups: A+ from Charity Watch for the second year, and they are one of only three veteran nonprofits to receive this rating the last two reports.  They’ve also received 4 stars (their highest rating) from Charity Navigator for five consecutive years.  They also maintain an extremely low overhead - 6% so more money goes directly to support injured Marines and other service members who serve with Marines and their families.  Since establishing the Semper Fi Fund in 2004, they've issued more than 65,100 grants, totaling more than $82 million in assistance to over 10,580 of our heroes and their families.

If you go to this link you can also read my friend Nic’s story and his reasons for taking on this great adventure. http://fundraising.semperfifund.org/fundraise?fcid=287545. He is the one who came up with the idea of pursuing this adventure as well as raising money for this organization. We both have set goals that we hope to reach before our adventure is over.

Thank you for helping to support this great cause.  Your donation will be helping me give back to our heroes who have given so much.  If you know of anybody else who might want to donate I would be extremely grateful if you please forward this link on to them or add this link to your Facebook page. The process is fast, easy and secure. No donation is too small!

Gabriel
