Thanks for all of your support and encouragement over the last few months!!!!  If you'd like to track "The 8 Boat," click on the following link: http://share.findmespot.com/shared/faces/viewspots.jsp?glId=018QSH5UWkoJoMYaiTzj3HtTkOreBFGBo                                                                                                                                                                                                              You can also visit the TX Water Safari website at http://texaswatersafari.org/                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------       Thanks for visiting my fundraising page for the Semper Fi Fund! As many of you already know, I'm participating in the Texas Water Safari canoe marathon. I plan to fundraise for the Semper Fi Fund during my training and participation in the 51st Texas Water Safari which starts at 9am on Saturday, June 8th.

The Texas Water Safari (TWS) is a 260-mile paddle race from the Texas Hill Country to the Gulf Coast over 4 straight days and nights. Run continuously since 1963, the course follows the San Marcos and Guadalupe Rivers from the city of San Marcos to the coastal fishing town of Seadrift. Paddlers must complete the race in 100 hours. While the exhausting pace and blistering heat are reason enough to bow out, it's the ancillary hurdles that often eliminate racers long before the finish line: dam portages, water moccasins, headwinds, logjams, mosquitoes, dysentery, alligators, sleep deprivation, and equipment failures. Even feral hogs have jumped in front of the boat during training runs!!! On top of that, due to the drought conditions in South Texas this year, water levels are low and river flow is slow.   I will be paddling in the Standard Division of the race in a Wenonah Jensen 18 (see picture at Zelder Dam) with long time friend, Brandon Heutmaker, who is from just outside Denver, Colorado.

For more about the race, the following is a link that will direct you to a trailer for a movie which gives a good synopsis:

Also visit the TWS website at:

http://www.texaswatersafari.org/

There will be a link on that website during the race to follow the progress of all boats during the 4 day and night event.  I will likely also post that link here. We will be in boat #8.

I am supporting the Semper Fi fund as I had the privilege and fortune of being raised in a Marine Corps family. Dad was a career Marine and mom was a "Bad Ass" Marine wife!!  During my childhood, I lived in California, Wisconsin, Florida, Virginia, Japan and Hawaii.  (See picture of Tim and Ruth Sukow on retirement day from the Marine Corps in Hawaii.)  I am raising money through the Semper Fi Fund as a way for me to say thanks to mom and dad for all they’ve done for me and to also do a little something for injured service members.   These injured service members have sacrificed for all of us.   They are all heroes AND deserve our support.

Thank you for cheering me on and supporting my fundraising efforts, I hope you will spread the word of my fundraising onto other friends, family, and co-workers. Your donation will be helping me give back to our Heroes whom have given so much. Donations even as small as $10 are much appreciated.   Contributions are tax deductible and with many companies offering matching gift programs, your donation can go further to help our injured heroes. The process is fast, easy and secure.  The Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit set up to provide immediate financial support for injured and critically ill members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families. Home page is www.semperfifund.org

Thanks so much for your support and please don't forget to send this page to any friends you think might be interested in the donating to this great cause.

If you’d like to contact me directly about the TWS race or the Semper Fi Fund, PLEASE DO SO!!!   I'd love to talk to you about it.  My phone number is 210.722.4421.  My email is chrissukow@yahoo.com.

Thanks again!   Cheers,

Chris
